Moment
MOMENT

(i.)
I see her smiling by a willow branch
Where shadows long and twist and touch her skin
Where words can sink in ways in which I can't
Those sweeter thoughts; yet warn me dreams will end
So forth my eyes of tortured purple dress
Belong the days among the leaves of spring
To bloom the flowers wild and soft caress
The hands that tear apart my paper wings
(ii.)
I picture all the times we couldn't see
The dark behind the pillars, lust and greed
So taking every day by day to free
The long lost lover deep inside of me
(iii.)
I had a moment now; I do believe
Untied and held up one last time, I breathe

Writer’s Comments:
This is written in a very specific form known as a Shakespearean Love Sonnet, which is a fourteen line poem in iambic pentameter (5 stressed syllables per line). It is broken into three sections where the second section starts drama and the third section resolves it. The last two lines are a couplet (same meter on both lines, and it rhymes) and sort of a self reflection on the experience in the poem.
