Life is What You Make of It
LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT
by R.D. Snow (c. 2008)
You are racing through life on a never-ending balance beam
With your arms flailing out to me, reaching for my help
Even though nothing inside you is ever incomplete
You are overwhelmed
You could do something great
If you just stop and concentrate
You will make it to the other side
Don't fall,
Hold on to what you love
Balance,
Let go of all you've grudged
I know,
How hard your life can get
Although,
If you take it rather slow
Life is what you make of it
You are searching your soul on a mountain missing half a bridge
With your dreams crying out to me for another chance
Even though all you will ever need is a stronger grip
You're an avalanche
You will be someone great
When you just stop and concentrate
You will make it to this other side
Don't fall,
Hold on to whom you love
I'll call,
When I'm ready for you above
I know,
How hard your life can get
Although,
If you take it rather slow
Life is what you make of it
[Bridge: Melodic Instrumental]
You'll make it to the other side…
Don't fall,
Hold on to what you love
Balance,
Let go of all you've grudged
I know,
How hard your life can get
Although,
If you take it rather slow
Life is what you make of it
Out there on the balance beam
Life is what you make of it
No matter how hard it will ever get
Life is what you make of it
Life is what you…

Writer’s Comments:
Dedicated to my mother. The picture is a desert rose that she had for several years before gifting to me when I expressed how much I liked it. It bloomed immediately that summer in its new location on the balcony.
This was one of the only poems I was willing to share with her back in the 2000’s and I remember that she really enjoyed it and even had a copy of it printed out at work. Although I’m not a religious person, at that point in my writing I was rather impressed with myself for being able to successfully create a spiritual poem and that made me willing to explore that in future work, such as “I’m Still Dreaming” and “The Life I Chose”.
